This is unique, as most are run by gasoline and is rated 4 out of 5 stars by reviewers over at amazon.com. This 7000 watt powerhouse is about $1750 and can pretty much run an entire house. It can at least keep your food in the fridge safe and let you use some lighting and cooking. For a larger, non-portable unit, this is an excellent choice with a motor made by a quality manufacturer.
Next we have the Xantrex Powerpack 600 Watt Jumpstarter, Power Inverter and Backup Power Source. This is a much smaller backup generator unit meant for smaller, more short term usage. It has very high reviews as well, 4 out of 5 stars from more than 100 reviewers. That alone should tell you everything you need to know. We all know that people will complain the first second there’s a problem, so getting that many stars as an average with that many reviewers is very telling of quality and performance. It has tough casing, an AM/FM radio, and even jumper cables you can use on the car. This little guy will do it all. It will run small tools and at only 29 pounds, can be taken virtually anywhere.
Ok, let’s talk about the Black & Decker StormStation All-In-One Rechargeable Power Source/Radio/Light #SS925 next. Another smaller unit with a built in light and radio. It is also well reviewed with a fours star average from about 80 reviews. It’s only 12 pounds but is also only 25 watts. This is truly a very portable unit meant for small tasks or to just keep you going until the power is back on. You may want to consider something larger if you need a lot more power for longer periods of time. This unit is good at what it’s for – portability and lots of functions for its size.
Last, we have the Xantrex 852-0301 XPower Powerpack 300EP Emergency Backup Power Source. This unit is pretty well reviewed at 4 stars, but only has a few reviews. It is more for a vehicle with it’s air compressor. It’s priced pretty well at about $74. It’s good at jumping a vehicle and has a reverse polarity checker to keep your battery safe. For it’s size it is powerful and useful. The LED light is particularly bright which is a very nice feature.
